Name: Garako
Canon: Jigokudou Reikai Tsuushin
Canon point: Post chapter 50 of the manga
Age: Unknown but way older than a normal cat ought to be. In human form they look like an adult in maybe their 30ies. Their "owner" is rumoured to be over 100 and Garako has been with him for a long time.

History: Garako is a demon cat. During the Heisei era they live in Irazu, Jouin city in the Hall of Paradise, a pharmacy selling natural and magical medicines and ointments, weird things, and, for those who know to come look for it, magical parafinalia. There is an anatomical model in the window and the outside is generally creepy, the shop is dark inside, and that combined with both the cat and the old man owning the place being creepy as well, the shop has been dubbed Hell Hall by the local children. It is a well-known place that a surprisingly large amount of adults go to to buy a better alternative to the normal medicines. They have a bit of an odd clientele, including ghosts, mediums, and demons. The shop itself has supposedly been around since the Edo period.

Another regularity at the shop these days is the three elementary schoolers known in town as The Three Great Evil Kings of Pranks, Kanamori Tetsushi, Niijima Ryouji, and Shiina Yuusuke, who have started to study exorcism under the old man. It started with freeing the ghost of a murdered woman, trapped under a tree at Lake Futatsu, moved on to taking care of the possession of one of their classmates, an incident during which Garako had to save Tetsushi from falling into a pit, then there was the cruel fate of an infant being bitten to death by a wild dog, and Tetsushi's brother Ryuuya almost getting taken by a shinigami because of a dozen murdered women hidden under the floor of the hospital room he was staying in, followed by a cursed painting that a woman attached her soul to, so that she could be with the man she loved onesidedly; she died after her tether snapped. After that a girl called Yuu is adopted by Tetsushi's neighbours, and a medium called Fujikato Souryuu is looking for her; his master Fujikado Ryuuun had made into Yuu a golem after finding her ghost wandering the mountains, and Souryuu had to fix that mistake, and after she died again she was reincarnated to become her adoptive parents biological child.

There are ayakashi trapped to houses trying to hunt the humans out, there are mononoke kidnapping children to save other mononoke, descendants of onmyouji, an inugami becoming the familiar to a girl, mountain gods, witches, possessions, mermaids, and other things related to the spirit world that the boys get involved with and ask the old man of the Hell Hall about and other things that they learn about, that Garako observes and, when they feel like it, interact with. The boys have made themselves very comfortable at the shop, they even have their own pillows and tea cups these days.

Personality:
  • Catty: Garako is, first and foremost, a cat. They can present as either cat or human, but no matter what they present as they have the instincts of a cat well-ingrained in them. They are, after all, a cat demon. They enjoy playing a normal cat but can't seem to remove the toothy uncatlike grin. They have a hunting instinct, and likes to hunt bugs, or birds, or shikigami that come too close to them. They like food and don't mind doing an adorable (creepy) normal-cat act and beg for a slice, though it can't be too hot, since they don't want to burn their tongue. They get irritable when you steal their toy or prey, they like to nap in a sunny spot.
  • Mischievous: This could also be called a childish streak, but mischeivous aligns better with their cat nature. Garako likes to speak out of nowhere, making people wonder where the mysterious voice is coming from. It's fun to creep people out with their human laugh and unnatural smile. They'll whack people with their paw or with their tail randomly if they feel like it. They'll mislead people- though only to a minorly dangerous level; they're not cruelly mischeivous. They're also snarky and not particularly straight-forward, unless it's for a reason or they feel like it.
  • Touches: Garako's favorite spot is their human's lap, and their favorite activity is being petted by him. They're not too interested in other people touching them just like that, least of all without warning. Children can be horrible that way. If somebody that Garako doesn't want to be touched by tries to touch them, or if anybody tries to touch them when they don't want to be touched, Garako will scratch that person. But they're not completely against being touched by people, or they wouldn't have allowed Tetsushi to bet them when he thanked Garako for saving him, or Souryuu wouldn't have been allowed to pet them so easily even though it was the first time that they had met. But respect Garako's boundaries, and all is well between you and them.
  • Caring: But sometimes it's necessary to be the first one to initiate touch, even if it's a person not their human. They will soothe crying children by letting them cuddle them, such as when Ryouji was crying over Yuu and Garako crawled up in the boy's lap. Crying children can often be comforted with some soft fur and it's an easy solution that Garako can provide. They also, to a certain extent that don't impair their judgment because they won't let it do so, care about other people, human, mononoke, ghost, or otherwise. They'll save people from mortal or severe harm, and may keep an eye on people on and off if they know that person is prone to trouble.
  • Realistic: But there is a point of no return, and Garako will not go too far in their caring. Garako knows well that not everyone can be saved. There are people who don't deserve saving, either. What is dead is dead and should remain so, spirits should be laid to rest but can't always be so painlessly, demons will eat people, humans will commit crimes. It's unreasonable to believe the opposite, and Garako is pragmatic. It's not practical to try to save everyone, it'll just wear you down and if you mourn every little thing or mistake, you'll break. And Garako has no interest in breaking, thank you very much.
  • Clever and Inquisitive: Garako is a long-lived kitty with a mind far above any normal cat's. Not only are they a mononoke, which enables them to know about the spiritual world and the people who dabbles with it, but they have long lived in the pharmacy and knows about medicines derived from nature and imbued with magic. They are also interested in knowing more, if it is of any interest to them. They have a fickle mind, after all, and don't really have any desire to learn about things that is of no interest to them.

Always Keep In Mind: Never forget the creepy laugh, without punctuation. The cheshire grin is important but not a constant. Weirding people out is good. As is the normal cat act that they enjoy. They are also a bit ambiguous, don't be a complete constant. Garako's movements are fluid and elegant, and they enjoy an air of mystery.

Log Sample: Provide one sample (5+ substantive comments) of you playing this character. It can be in brackets or prose, but should not be a network or similar thread.

Questions:

What do you want to study at Diatu Magicademy? Anything. Hihihihi As long as it strikes my fancy. But if you are looking for me to choose any particular school~ Hihihihi Intimation is an insult, I don't always have fingers. Modification is too tedious. Hihi Fantastics would seem a little odd coming from me. Sunderings is impractical for the same reason as Intimation. Hihihihi In the end, Thaumaturgy seems the best option for me, though I may forage to satisfy my curiosity.

If you knew you could go back to the moment you left, would you leave immediately or continue your studies for a while? You indicate that time would be halted where I am from for the duration of my stay here? If my little old man would not miss me, it could be beneficial to us both if I were to learn a thing or two. Hihihihi I suppose that means that I would stick around until it isn't useful any longer.

If your enemy was at Diatu Magicademy, how would you react? Hmmm, I don't particularly have any enemies, but if it's malevolent spirits I mi~ght give a guiding nudge to anyone willing to take care of them. There will always be those type of mortals after all. Hihihihi

When is it acceptable to resolve a dispute by force? Hihihihi When talking isn't an option, of course~ But one can never judge such a situation beforehand.

What should the supreme goal of any wizard be? World domination? Hihihihi Perhaps it is riches, to be able to turn anything one desires into gold as King Midas of old? Hihihi Or maybe it is eternal life like the Comte de Saint Germain? The power to control anything and anyone they wish with their mind? There are many possibilities. Hihihihi

Special Considerations

Your Special Something: Secret Knowledge OR A Special Connection.

Rank Your House Choice: I'll go with random. I know that if they get Valhudor they will probably not be there when it's at it's loudest.

Powers: Magical essence. Meaning that the power to infuse magic into things like tools and medicines to make them more powerful, maybe be on the table. I'm assuming that this would be possible with the game's own brand of magic as well though. There is also the supernatural speed and strength bit, Garako would likely lose those and go to above average cat/human levels, depending on form. There is teleportation to consider, too, that's a thing they can do.
But otherwise, as Garako's shapeshifting ability will remain intact, I don't have any power in particular that I definitely desire for them.

Items: If you are interested in item regains in the future, or items from your character's world appearing in this game, please provide a brief description of these items here.

Anything Else: Garako mainly presents as a cat, but thier human form is natural to them. As discussed briefly on the FAQ, this would qualify them for special quarters.
